About

COMMUNIMEDIA has been making bespoke publications for over 45 years initially under the imprint REALITY PRESS. It offers special edition books and posters that are difficult to find elsewhere and focuses on photography and the work of the English photographer Ron McCormick.

Its first publication STEPNEY  WORDS, a small anthology of poetry by East London schoolchildren was put together in 1971by a local teacher Chris Searle and the photographer Ron McCormick. This modest publication became a cause celebré and sold over thirty thousand copies when Searle was sacked from his teaching job for publishing the poetry prompting the 'Stepney Schoolkids Strike' when hundreds of school students walked out of their Stepney school on strike and marched through the City of London to Westminster. The protest resulted in newspaper headlines in the national press and the kids poems  were reprinted in many national newspapers and became famous. The poets were invited to read their poems at the Institute of Contemporary Arts, the Young Vic, at Poetry International and on radio and television. Searle's dismissal went to the British High Court and two years later he was reinstated and returned to teach in Stepney

In 2017 the same team were invited by the Shoreditch contemporary art centre RICH MIX, to help it celebrate its tenth anniversary with a new poetry project and a reprise of the earlier 1971 publication - the result was STEPNEY WORDS III.

Communimedia continues it work in the community and in publishing and is now located in South Wales.   Address:   7 Clifton Place, Newport, South Wales, NP20 4EX United Kingdom
